New poker legislation block US players from most online poker sites.
You may be wondering what is up with the lack of large
freerolls for US players. The answer is, President Bush passed the
'Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act' which basically bans US players
from playing on overseas poker sites. If it wasn't for this, US players
would have many more $500, $1000 and greater cash pool
freerolls.
From what I read, the republican congress passed this act
minutes before the closing of some big session, with 90% of congress not having
seen the final version of the act. The move was part of the republican's
'family values' agenda to make voters believe the republican party is more
family-value oriented for the 2008 election.
There is legislation on the way to amend this act for a
'skill game exception' which allows us to gamble with games involving skill such
as poker.
